I have worked with Tom and Dmitri before, with great success, so was very happy when they decided to have me as their architect again on this project.  We are moving and raising the house that presently sits on their new property AND moving another house onto the property from the UC campus, which they bought for a whopping $17!!
We have hurriedly submitted drawings for a Use Permit, and I'm doing shadow studies now, but even so we are a little behind the 8-ball in terms of scheduling this.  The University has offered an incentive for removing the house by the 21st of April, but unless we have divine intervention I don't see how we'll accomplish this.
Anyway, I do enjoy working on house-raises and one of the houses isre-designed with a new ground floor level.  I also enjoy reading the blog as it frequently gets added onto.  If you're interested, http://62ndstreet.blogspot.com - check it out!

]]>Tue, 22 Sep 2009 16:20:06 -0800http://blackbirddesigns.weebly.com/1/post/2009/09/first-post1.htmlFirst I must say I am not a blogger.  I have enjoyed reading other peoples blogs sometimes, but have not done any of my own.  One of the reasons I want to have a blog page here on my website is because I want a place to write my thoughts about the fairly recent phenomenon in the SF Bay Area of 'Building Beneath' through either raising a house or excavating or a combination of both.  I teach a class on this way of adding to your house at the BEC and am keenly interested in it.
